1 What is an SCI paper?

SCI papers mean that your paper is included by the search agency SCI. The full name of SCI is Science Citation Index. What we need to care about when submitting is not whether our paper will be retrieved, but whether the submitted magazine is included in the scientific citation index database.

SCI papers are papers published in journals indexed by SCI. At present, a small number of researchers in the science and technology community in my country mistakenly believe that SCI is a journal. Because Nanjing University is the first to cite and has become a type of journal for academic evaluation and rewards and punishments for major universities and research institutions. As for the SCI paper itself, most scientific researchers in my country face the defect of lack of English ability, especially for older and highly professional scientific and technological workers, content is not a problem, and English often becomes a restrictive bottleneck. SCI papers are still mysterious and difficult to publish for most scientific and technological workers in my country. Based on this, most scientific research institutions, universities and other units have introduced them as evaluation criteria, which is also fair and lacks evaluation criteria for human intervention. While working, scientific researchers focus on writing and publishing SCI papers. On the one hand, it enables my country's scientific research to be in line with the international level, and on the other hand, it improves my country's scientific and technological standards. At the same time, my country's scientific and technological workers also need to be good at using the SCI official website to query and search for existing papers and scientific and technological achievements.

2 Do magazines and periodicals mean the same?

Journals generally refer to academic journals, and magazines refer to life reading materials such as readers who have read before.

Journals are here to publish research papers, or experimental study papers, that is, articles that we usually call data. Such articles need a large number of references to support your research; what about magazines? They are usually here to publish personal opinions. As long as what you say makes sense, it doesn’t matter whether there are references or not.

Journal papers are highly academic and generally require strict review. They must undergo anonymous review by peers. The review process is 3-6 months, while the magazine does not have such a strict review process. Generally, the editor can publish it as long as it is appropriate. The review results may be known in 1-2 weeks.

3 How do you know what the review cycle of the magazine you want to submit?

How to check the processing cycle of your own submission journal papers?

Find articles that magazines have recently hired, such as the one I have found above. Find a few articles to see how they received and revised the manuscript. The above article was received on March 24, and the first time it was revised on July 5, which took 3 months. It took another month to discuss the author's manuscript, which shows that the first time the magazine gave the news was only 2 months, which is considered to be fast.

Don't ask me how long is the first message usually? People with a lot of articles have a very large time span, as short as half a month, as long as 2 and a half years.

The review cycle is hard to say, the length of the review depends on your direction, quality, luck, etc. But we can take a rough look at the average publication time of the magazine.

There are mainly the following methods:

To see other people's evaluation of the journal, you can go to the following websites:

/sci/

Of course there are also little woodworms:/

The most reliable way is to look at the articles recently hired by this magazine. The article will mark the first draft and the time of recruitment. Read more articles in this magazine by yourself and you will have a clear idea.

In fact, my approach is to ignore it after investing it and concentrate on writing the next paper. There are so many benefits of this approach, please experience it slowly.

4. What are the requirements for article language issues and layout formats?

For language polishing, you can refer to translation software such as Google Translation, and then modify the article to try to avoid writing "Chinese English".

Typesetting is the basic skill of a paper. Detailed typesetting is indeed different typesetting format requirements for different magazines. This checks the corresponding magazine homepage generally has it.

But I have invested a lot and found that most of my magazines do not require the layout format, but only require the content to be complete. What to do? For this kind of good magazine and type-based format, you will only go to a few articles they hired. Some of them have not yet been typed, which can give you good typesetting ideas.

Typesetting is the basic skill of a paper. The layout of a paper immediately makes people know whether you are a novice in scientific research or a veteran with good quality. As a novice, you must practice typography well, otherwise you will be exposed. Fortunately, the magazine will not shoot you because of the layout, it will ask you to modify it. Unfortunately, the reviewer saw a very poor layout and thought that your level was not good. Of course, he would look for your fault everywhere and make your paper tragic.

5 How to choose the right magazine? What parameters are used to determine if the magazine is suitable for my article publication?

Many people started asking this question before they finished writing their papers, which may be a bit early. My approach is usually to find magazines that appear in references.

If you really don't know, try this website and paste a summary to help you find magazines you can vote for.

Choose which SCI to vote for:

/journal_selector

The best way is to find people around you who have experience in the same direction and remember to be in the same direction.

6 If I am sure of a certain magazine, how should I vote? Is there a unified way?

Most SCI magazines are now contributed online. Just check the name of this magazine, and usually the first few items can find his website. It is best not to use Baidu when checking, just use Bing, after all, it is dealing with English. Online submission is the main form adopted by foreign journals. It is intuitive, quick and convenient. However, you need to register a lot of information on the website before submitting online. It will be troublesome to use online submission for the first time.

However, you can save the information you registered for the first time to the WORD file, and copy and paste most of the information when submitting online in the future. Be sure to remember the registered account name and password, otherwise it will delay your submission plan.

7 How do you know the status of my manuscript?

After submitting the manuscript, log in to the magazine's submission system and the processing status of your manuscript will be displayed.

The manuscript status generally includes these:

  • Submit New Manuscript
  • Submissions Sent Back to Author
  • Incomplete Submissions
  • Submissions Waiting for Author’s Approval
  • Submissions Being Processed
  • Submissions Needing Revision
  • Revisions Sent Back to Author
  • Incomplete Submissions Being Revised
  • Revisions Waiting for Author’s Approval
  • Revisions Being Processed、Declined Revisions

The specific status is generally as follows:

  1. Submitted to journal

  2. Manuscript received by Editorial Office It is your article that has come to the editor, proving that the submission is successful.

  3. with editor If you do not require the editor to be selected when submitting the article, go to the editor first, and the editor will assign it to other editors. There will be two other states:

3.1 Awaiting Editor Assignment Assignment Editor assignment is to distribute your article to another editor for processing.

3.2 technical check in progress Check whether your article meets the journal's submission requirements
3.3 Editor Declined Invitation If the editor receives the process, the reviewer will be invited.

  4. There will be two states later

4.1 Decision Letter Being Prepared The editor decides by himself before he finds the reviewer. According to general experience, it is estimated that the student will die. 1) The English language is too bad, so the editor asks to modify it. 2) The content is too bad, so I have to refuse. Unless the big guys are directly accepted.

4.2 Review(s) invited Once the reviewer is found, start reviewing the draft

  5. Under review This should be a long wait. Of course, the previous steps may also be very slow, and it depends on the editor's processing. If the invited reviewer does not want to review, he will decline and the editor will re-invite other reviewers.

  6. Required Reviews Completed The reviewer's opinion has been uploaded, the review has been completed, waiting for the editor's decision

  7. Evaluating reviewers' opinions, and you will then be subject to the decision you will receive from the editor

  8. Minor revision/ Major revision can be celebrated a little at this time, but there is no big problem because there is a modification. I won’t say much about how to change it specifically. Humility and caution are indispensable.

  9. Revision submitted to journal Another loop started 10 Accepted Congratulations

  10. Transfer copyright form Sign a copyright agreement

  11. Uncorrected proof Waiting for you to proofread the sample draft

  12. In press, corrected proof The article is being printed and the sample has been proofread by the author

  13. Manuscript sent to production

  14. in production

Maybe the words in your state are different. If you don’t understand, please ask Baidu.

8 When submitting a submission, you encounter a select action type. How to choose the article type?

If you are a student, there are generally two types of articles to choose.

One is that when the paper is relatively long and systematic and full text, we choose research paper, and some magazines are also called regular paper, etc. If it is a short article, we choose Short Communication, or some magazines are called letters. The rest is the Review Article for your article review article, and the formulas for your article have publication errors, etc. I remember someone used Erratum to correct his author unit.

The following SI: DSTA 2015 and other similar things, don’t choose them, that is the option for conference papers. Whether conference papers are considered SCI searches is often a problem.

9 Generally, SCI articles need to write a Cover letter. How should I write this? What should you pay attention to when writing?

Let me give you my template, throw a brick and jade.

Dear Professors:

We submit our manuscript entitled “XXXX(the title of your paper)” to International Journal XXX(the name of the magazine).

We the undersigned declare that this manuscript entitled “XXXX(the title of your paper)” is original, has not been published before and is not currently being considered for publication elsewhere. 10 Generally, SCI articles need to write a Highlights. How should I write this? What should you pay attention to when writing?

Highlights are only recently started to be required by magazines, usually 4-5 short-sentence numbers or nouns. Let me give you a reference for my template.

The elastic-plastic problem of double periodic cracks is solved.

The influence of plasticity around the crack tip is addressed.

A highly accurate approach is put forward by avoiding double infinite summation.

A new identity suitable

for periodic cracks research is put forward first and proved. (Popularity of work, application)

An analytical formula is obtained for

calculating SIF with a reliable precision. (What I want others to remember or use the most is that I can't understand our things, just use the simple formula I got in the end)

Just write something similar. It is equivalent to explaining your innovations and characteristics in the least words.

The following example is written according to the model, solution method, verification, and main results.

The doubly periodic interfacial crack in a layered periodic composite is studied.

The skills for periodic collinear and periodic parallel cracks are used together.

A comparison with known solutions verifies the validity of our solutions.

There exists a coupled effect of geometrical and physical factors on crack behavior.

The shielding effect and amplifying effect of multiple cracks exist simultaneously.

Another new example is written according to the model of problems, models, results, verification, and conclusions.

The fibrous nano-composites with imperfect interface are investigated.

The imperfect interface, nano interface stress, and fibersection shape are considered.

The closed from solution of the effective antiplaneshear modulus is obtained.

Five previoussolutions can be regarded as the limit cases form the present expression.

The interfacial imperfection causes a reduction in the effective shear modulus.

11 Which level and type of journal is suitable for the article you write (do not know the relevant journals in this direction)

Look at which area your reference is from, and see if your articles are better than references, so that you will know that your level is the one that is better.

When you don’t understand, stick the summary to the website below and choose which SCI to vote for:

/journal_selector

12 How did the reviewer verify that your article is successful and can be published?

This is hard to say. First of all, it is an estimate of academic level. As mentioned above, you can see the writing of manuscript typesettings and writing, so if you find the logical problem of the paper, it will be tragic.

A qualified paper must master the following things:

A programming language or experiment, some theories and mathematical descriptions, professional terms and reasonable results analysis, qualified typesetting, model diagrams and results drawing and sorting, databases, manuals, analysis and sorting of experimental or theoretical results in existing literature, error-free English expression, academic contributions, ideas, and some luck.

This is difficult and simple. As an academic worker, you should cultivate these things as qualities.

13 Why not submit multiple submissions to one draft. What other taboos should we avoid?

Previously, a professor at Shandong University was misconducted and submitted multiple drafts, which was exposed by foreign websites.

It is not a matter of not being taboo or not. You said that your expectant mother-in-law will marry your girlfriend to three families at the same time. Are you happy? It is extremely irresponsible to submit multiple drafts. If the foreign magazine you invest in is discovered, not only you, but the entire research team will suffer. There was a teacher around me who was re-submitted to my papers by others. When I went to the Yangtze River, the second round of public announcement period was exposed. This kind of major mistake is wrong, and you can't explain it even if someone cheats you.

Zou Chenglu, a biochemist and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, mentioned the seven deadly crimes of academic corruption:

1. Plagiarize others' achievements.
2. Forge and tamper with experimental data.
3. Arbitrarily encroach on other people's scientific research results.
4. Repeat papers.
5. The quality of academic papers is reduced and the education of people is irresponsible.
6. Highlight personal interests in academic review and project application.
7. Excessive pursuit of fame and fortune will encourage impetuousness.

These seven deadly sins are not something you should be taboo, they are the bottom line and cannot be touched. If you commit a class contradiction, you will be kicked out of the door by the academic community sooner or later.

Never submit more than one draft. It is not easy to accumulate reputation, but it can be done with just a small thing.

14 After the article you submitted was reviewed by others, he did not agree, but the reviewer learned your method or theory. Will he use it?

Don't worry, you have the date of submission. If he learns your method or theory, publish it first. You can write a letter to the journal editor and attach your original submission records. The same sentence above is true. It is not easy to accumulate reputation, but it can be done with just a small thing. Maybe he was knocked down in an instant.

Don’t always live too carefully, try boldly, fail, and try again. Or you will succeed or you will get used to it.

When you are seeing this, have you gained some understanding of the introduction to SCI, which makes you feel that the so-called "altar" seems to be much closer to you! However, it can also be seen that it is not that easy to win an SCI, so improving one's own strength is the key to the problem. Come on, work harder, grit your teeth and persevere, and strive for your first article!
